Elizabeth of Valois was born in the Louvre Palace in Paris in 1389. Being the third (butfirst to reach adulthood) of the twelve children of the marriage between Charles VI, King of France and Elizabeth of Bavaria.
In November 1396, at age 6, she was married in Calais with King Richard II of England, as part of a peace treaty signed between France and England.
Since her arrival in England, Richard conceived a tender affection for her (she was a child). She, too young to consummate their marriage was very happy at his side. But that happiness would be short: in 1399, Richard II was deposed by Henry of Lancaster and imprisoned in Pontefract, where he was assassinated the following year.
The new king orders that the young Queen Dowager (who had 11 years) was far fromWindsor, being driven to the village of Sunninghill. Henry did not know what to do with it, so I planned to marry her to his son and heir, the future Henry V, but Elizabeth rejectedthat idea and did not want to hear about the prince. Upon learning of the death of her husband, the queen comes to mourning and rejects the messengers of the king. Finally, the king allows him to return to France.
In 1404, her uncle and godfather, Louis of Orleans, sought the hand of Elizabeth for his son Charles. On June 29, 1406, celebrates the marriage between Elizabeth and Charles, in the town of Compiègne. Elizabeth, aged 16, deeply mourned throughout the ceremony, because she felt relieved: after being Queen of England, now she justmarried a cousin, on top of 5 years her junior. At present for their nuptials, King CharlesVI of France, decided to climb up orleans county level Duchy of Orleans.
On November 23, 1407, Duke Louis of Orleans was assassinated on the orders of his cousin John the Fearless, Duke of Burgundy, making Elizabeth and her husband Duke of Orleans.
Two years later, on September 13, 1409, in the city of Blois, and only 19 years old, Isabel dies giving birth to her only daughter, Jane, being buried in the chapel of Notre-Dame des Bonnes -Nouvelles of the abbey of Saint-Laumer, Blois.
