Elizabeth of York. Queen Elizabeth of England.

Elizabeth of York was born in the Palace of Westminster in 1466. He was the eldest of 10 children of the marriage between Edward IV of England and Elizabeth Woodville.

When her father died in 1483, it was rumored that her uncle, Richard, planned to marry her as his sickly wife died Anne Neville.

Elizabeth Woodville then arranged the marriage of her daughter with Henry Tudor, if itcould beat Richard, which the fiance got at the Battle of Bosworth (1485), becomingKing Henry VII of England. However, the new monarch was in a hurry to marry Elizabeth.2 months after ascending the throne, Henry was crowned and continued postponing the wedding. Finally, Parliament, under popular pressure, urged the king to fulfill hispromise.

The link between Elizabeth of York and Henry VII of England was held at WestminsterAbbey in 1486. Elizabeth's coronation as queen of England took place in that year.

The eldest son and heir to her crown, died on April 2, 1502, five months after his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. This death prompted Elizabeth to become pregnantfor the last time. The child, her daughter Catherine, lived just a few hours.
